Sir Circus Lion

January 11, 2010
This is the first painting that took me more then a day to complete. I started it yesterday, intending it to be an art piece for the 10th, before deciding I wanted more time with it. It is not that it is particularly complicated painting, it is just big. It is about 24" by 32". I had a lot of fun doing the lion. I haven't done a big painting like this in a while. I am intending to do a lot more now that I have gotten all my paints out again. Animals and Nature are fun subjects too.
This painting was done with my array of acrylic paints, on a wooden board. I started with a white lion on a black background, and just let my imagination take over from there. He ended up being a star attraction at a circus. I think the colors look nice with the white. After I was finished with the painting, I put a tan tinted gloss over some areas to layer a bit more. After that, finished! Doing the last bit today was fairly quick and painless compared to yesterday, when I was constantly fussing over the lion. It always helps to step away for a while when you are having trouble.
Well that is about it. Thank you to all for your support and I will see you tomorrow with my new creation. Only 654 more pieces to go now! If you are interested in more information about this piece, or would like to see others, please visit my shop at foundmyself.com/gallery/nikkiandsimon .
